Happy Holidays Prima Dora Fans!!!

I am writing to tell you all the latest news at Prima Dora, especially concerning three big topics:

New Extended Holiday Hours
Tempur-Pedic Price Increase
Blue Santa Donations

Starting today Prima Dora will be staying open later to give you more time to complete your shopping list. We will be open Monday-Friday 10-9 and Saturday-Sunday 10-6 until Dec. 16th. We will then be open 10-10 until Dec. 23rd. We will only be open 9-5 on Christmas Eve. Make us one of your stops on the way home!

Beat the Price Increase! As of Jan. 2, 2008 all Tempur-Pedic mattress prices are going up $300-$500! Act now to avoid the higher price. Feel free to stop in or call us if you have any questions.

South Congress rushes to the rescue to help Blue Santa!
And you can beat the parking crunch in SoCo on First Thursday by parking at One Texas Center (garage available at Barton Springs Rd.@ S. 1st Street), walking one block west to S. Congress Ave. and riding the FREE Orange 'Dillo which runs every 10 minutes from 6-11 pm, from the Hyatt along S. Congress to Live Oak and back!
The annual Blue Santa community-wide effort to collect donations of toys for Austin's children experienced an unusual shortfall(about 40,000 gifts short!) this year due to bad weather on the Chuy's parade day last weekend.
You can make a donation of a new toy or a contribution of money when you come to the First Thursday celebration on South Congress Ave. on December 6th. In fact, some merchants have toys for sale as well, making it an easy option for you to purchase and donate all in one visit!
All toys need to be delivered by Dec. 10th to the collection center(Prima Dora is one), so the time is NOW to join the March of the Toys for Austin's families in need.

We have stocked up this year in anticipation of all of your holiday gift needs. We have a wonderful selection of stocking stuffers, hats & scarves, jewelry, frames, stuffed animal slippers, bodycare and funny must-haves. We are your one-stop gift shop.

Dia De Los Muertos and First Thursday what a great combination!
We carry a great line of Dia de Los Muertos Art by Ladislao Loera, a local artist. His passion for Day of the Dead is a year-round endeavor and we also have joined in. Come by this First Thursday and see some of the great t-shirts, candles, cards, and magnets that portray Frenzy Art.

Some of you may not know this but Halloween is my(Annissa-Store Owner) birthday. So this year we are going a little batty, turning into a pumpkin and crawling like a spider.

Shop Tax Free for Backpack Donations

This weekend is Tax Free shopping for back-to-school items, including backpacks.

Please remember that Prima Dora is your downtown and South Austin drop-off location for the Women Supporting Women backpack drive. We are collecting donations until Aug. 23rd.

Your donations will be greatly appreciated by an Austin child on the first day of school. Drop off at Prima Dora, 1912 S. Congress Ave.

Remember the Joy of Back-to-School?

Prima Dora is an official drop-off location for BackPack Austin. We are your convenient downtown and South Austin drop-off until Thursday, August 23rd. Our location at 1912 S. Congress Ave. will make it easy for many folks to participate in this fun back-to-school charity drive.

We are joining forces with Women Supporting Women for this great event. This is the 3rd Women Supporting Women's Annual Backpack Drive. We would like to invite you to participate.

WSW is about networking, shopping, workshops, job fairs, and resources to support businesses owned by women in the city of Austin and prospective women that have an interest in pursuing a career in business.

Sweet Dreams is the newest 24 hour child care facility in Austin that provides non-traditional hours of childcare.

On August 25th, Women Supporting Women and Sweet Dreams 24 hour child care center will be providing backpacks and school supplies to low income and at risk children of the Austin community. WSW is challenging individuals and companies to donate backpacks and school supplies to distribute at the August 25th event.

If your company would like to participate by donating supplies, volunteers, being a drop off location for donations, or a corporate sponsor for this event, any participation would be greatly appreciated. To coordinate the participation of your business, you may contact Yolanda, Elida or Mechelle Edwards at 512-926-3700.

Together, we can make a difference in a child's life by providing the basic necessities for a great first day at school.

The things I see through the Windows of Prima Dora

Last night during First Thursday, I saw an array of things that make this city unique. Below is the list.

A man wearing a pirate hat carrying a guitar case, who we dubbed Captain Fender.
A person in a hotdog outfit shopping for hand-blown glass pipes.
A group of four that looked like they were on their way to an S&M Club.
An awesome drumline.
Attire ranging from hippie dresses, to cowboy hats, to business suits, to tennis skirts.


What can I say, Austin is Weird. And we love it that way.
